  Assumption Definition
Assumption The term assumption is used when a buyer of a property agrees to take over the mortgage payments on that property. For example, if you were to purchase a property using this method, instead of taking out an entirely new mortgage, you would become responsible for the payments of the current mortgage and the mortgage would be put into your name.
